Memphis Brothers Accused of Jumping Police On Beale Street Tell Different Story

The two brothers accused of fighting four police officers on Beale Street have come out publicly to say their side of the story on what really happened.  As first reported, Mario Bills and his older brother Myrus Williams allegedly refused to leave Beale Street in Downtown Memphis after being requested to leave in the wee hours of Sunday morning, as reported on MemphisRap.com.

According to Mario Bills, who spoke with ABC 24, what police have stated, actually happened a little different. Williams state that  officers Christopher Brown, Joseph Vale, and Robert Forbert walked up to him and his wife as they were conversating with Officer Kenneth Gibbs who was requesting that the two leave Beale Street since it was closing. Reportedly an officer punched his wife and then punched him.

“We went from laughing and joking to defending ourselves,” he told ABC in an interview.

According to the officers, they were only protecting themselves after Bills allegedly punched Officer Gibbs.

As for Bills trying to grab the handgun from one of the police officer’s holster, he says it’s not true.

Bills says one of the officers had pushed him down and he reached up to try to catch himself.

“… so I guess he thought I was trying to attack him but he bum rushed me and all the other officers came.”

The two brothers who are facing assault charges are due back in court on June 25th.
