Friends and family of Melania Cook, a woman who was shot and killed by her sister’s boyfriend during a domestic dispute in Raleigh, gathered in the neighborhood to honor her.

People not only gathered in a vigil to honor Melania Cook but also to raise awareness of domestic violence which continues to be a big issue.

It was Thursday that Cook died in what police have labeled a domestic violence case.

Still, while police have labeled the case domestic, no arrest has been made and Melania Cook’s family and friends are calling her death ‘an injustice’ and ‘a senseless killing.’

The story goes that Melania Cook, 31, rushed to the house of sister’s boyfriend after her sister called her about an argument she was having with the 42 year-old man.

At some point after Melania Cook arrived, she and her sister’s boyfriend were involved in a confrontation leading to each other pulling guns. Ironically, both Melania Cook and her sister’s boyfriend ended up shooting each other.

While the man survived and was treated at the hospital, Melania Cook did not survive and died from her injuries.

Police have not charged the man since the incident which is alleged to have been in self-defense.
