The 23-year-old New Orleans-native, whose birth name is Dwayne Michael Carter, was taken into police custody in the early morning hours Monday in midtown Atlanta with several drugs in his possession, according to police statements.

The New Orleans native Lil’ Wayne has recorded five albums, beginning with “Tha Block Is Hot” back in 1999.

His latest album “Tha Carter II” was hailed by critics and debuted at No. 2 on the charts after its release last year. The album is the second installment of a planned five-part “Carter” series. The “Carter III” is expected sometime the end of 2006.

Currently Lil Wayne has a U.S. tour lined up with Dem Franchize Boyz, set to start August 17 in Cincinnati. No cancellations or postponements of tour dates have been announced at this time.
