Latinos in Memphis Protesting Violence After 5 Hispanics Killed in Past 2 Months

Memphis Latino Hispanic rally

Latinos of the Hispanic community in Memphis, Tennessee are protesting violence in a rally after five Latinos were killed over just the past two months.

Led up by rally organizer Miguel Rosales, who is reportedly dying from kidney failure and desperately needs a transplant, the grassroots organization is rallying together but currently has no name, according to WREG.

Though Miguel Rosales’ health is in the balance, the rally organizer is focusing more of his energy on bringing the Latino community together in Memphis in protest against violence of Hispanics.

Rosales told the media “there’s no protection” in the poor neighborhoods adding that “people are getting killed everyday.”

Along with the five Latinos that Rosales says have been killed in the past two months, he added that there has also been at least nine attacks.

Rosales claims that the legal status is a barrier making Hispanics easy targets for crime as well as their language which, according to Rosales, leaves many assaults unreported.

A victim of crime himself, Rosales has reportedly been robbed three different times at gunpoint.

Rosales wants to encourage more Latinos in the Hispanic community to report crimes as well as hopes to see more Spanish-speaking officers in their neighborhood.

Rosales and his group are in their second rally, which is set to place in the Highland-Berclair area of Highland and Popular on today (Saturday) at 3PM with future rallies planned.
