Another disappointing first round play-off loss sends the New York Yankees home without the penant. In a 4-6 loss to the Cleveland Indians on Monday Night, the Yanks came up short and some are passing blame to Captain Derek Jeter. Jeter went 3 for 17 with only 1 RBI and zero extra base hits, putting him at his lowest average in his entire playoff career.

Once proclaimed Mr. Clutch, and even Mr. November during his past feats, Jeter’s disappointing performance during this year’s American League Division Series puts him in a place he has probably never been before: on the Yankees Fans Bad List.

However, the team as a whole produced low numbers the entire series. Alex Rodriguez, who is used to the boos from the New York fans came up short on hits, and Jorge Posada and Hideki Matsui were noticeably absent from the stat sheet.

Because Derek Jeter is Derek Jeter, he probably won’t get too much flack from the Yankees front office, and he definitely won’t get any berating from his female fans. His job is secure for at least the next 3 years, but the Yankees early exit from the playoffs will once again produce some major changes in the clubhouse. This could reportedly be Manager Joe Torre’s last year with the team. Plus, a new closer, changes in the pitching staff, and a possible A-Rod move are all on the Yank’s agenda.

“Every year when we lose, there’s usually a lot of change,” Jeter said.

For the Yankee’s sake, Jeter is hoping that all of the changes are for the better.
