Hustle and Flow director Craig Brewer and actor Terrance Howard are coming together again for a film about singer Charley Pride and his life as the first black country music superstar.

“Charley has a superb story to tell and is a well-loved character,” states Brewer, who was nominated for an Academy Award for film, Hustle and Flow. “His songs, like Kiss An Angel Good Morning, are country classics.”

“They don’t have to embellish anything,” stated country music legend Charley Pride. “Just tell it like it was.” “People say everybody knows Charley Pride, but no, they don’t,”

Though best known for his music legacy, the Mississippi native’s rise to fame as the first black country music star is only part of his story. He also played baseball in the old Negro American League in the 1950s.

Pride states he’s never been heckled because of his skin color. That’s one thing he predicts will take some of the film’s viewers by surprise. “People didn’t care if I was pink or green. They just liked what was coming at them,” he said.

The still-untitled film has not yet been scheduled for production.
