Elder and jurisdictional Superintendent Milton R. Hawkins, nephew of the late Bishop G. E. Patterson was formally installed as pastor of Temple of Deliverance Church of God in Christ over the weekend. Hawkins, who spent several years as pastor of New Jerusalem COGIC in Detroit, takes over the 10,000+ member Memphis congregation which was founded by his uncle who passed away last spring at the age of 68.

Members of the historic church say that the transition of leadership has been first rate with the help of Tennessee 4th jurisdictional prelate, Bishop Jerry Maynard of Nashville. Though no other major changes have taken place since the death of it’s founding leader, Temple of Deliverance will undoubtedly incur some managerial and fiscal changes. Changes, which hopefully are for the better.
