Brooklyn born hip-hop music artist Mos Def now known as Yasiin Bey was arrested in South Africa after reportedly trying to leave South Africa on Thursday.
Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def was allegedly attempting to head to an event in Ethiopia on a pass issued by World Service Authority which is stated to not be a legitimate government authority.
The rapper who left the United States has been living in Cape Town since 2013 along with other family.
According to reports, Mos Def and his family overstayed beyond the expiration date of the passport and must leave the country in 14 days and could be banned for five years before he could even attempt to return to the country.
In 2014, the rapper stated his plans for leaving the U.S. was due to America being a challenging place and due to the current social, political and economic state making it difficult for him here to be creative and to produce music.
