MemphisRap.com Just Hit 25 – The OG Site for Memphis Rap Isn’t Done Yet

It’s hard to believe that MemphisRap.com has been online for 25 years – 26 if you count the year it spent in beta testing.

On April 1, 2001, MemphisRap.com officially launched after debuting as a beta in 2000, and a quarter century later, the site stands as one of the longest-running resources dedicated to Memphis rap music, culture, and history.

The website was born out of a vision that few others saw coming. The late founder Hosea ‘M-Town’ Mays, Jr. – a former rap artist, music producer, and futurist – recognized early on that Memphis rap artists and others throughout the Mid-South were being underrepresented online. Together with his partner, web developer and co-founder Charla Littlejohn, he built something that would outlast expectations and stand the test of time. MemphisRap.com followed in the footsteps of Mays’ earlier web initiatives – Crazy Craze, The Room (The Rap Out Of Memphis), and G.C. Communities (a top talent community that consisted of thousands of entertainers, athletes, dancers, models, and more from across the globe) – and carried that spirit forward into a new era.

Over the past 25 years, the site has grown into a hub for Memphis rap news, music, interviews, videos, reviews, and more, drawing millions of visitors, contributors, and artists along the way.

While things have been quieter lately, the work continues behind the scenes. New ventures are in the works – including projects that were underway before his passing – and there is plenty more to come.

As we mark this monumental 25th anniversary, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to every artist, fan, contributor, and loyal visitor who has been part of this journey – whether you found us in the early days or just recently discovered us. This milestone belongs to all of you.

Here’s to 25 years – and to everything still ahead.
