Justin Johnson has been found guilty of first-degree murder and other charges related to the fatal shooting of Memphis rapper Young Dolph, whose real name was Adolph Thornton Jr. The verdict was delivered after a four-day trial, with Johnson now facing a life sentence for his role in the killing.
The tragic incident took place on November 17, 2021, at Makeda’s Homemade Butter Cookies, where Young Dolph was gunned down. Prosecutors argued that the murder was a targeted hit, with Johnson and accomplice Cornelius Smith carrying out the act in exchange for a $100,000 payout allegedly organized by a third party with ties to a local record label.
During the trial, evidence such as cell phone records and video surveillance linked Johnson to the scene of the crime. Despite challenges to the reliability of this evidence and disputes over its interpretation, the jury ultimately found Johnson guilty.
The murder case, which has attracted widespread attention, is not over yet. Sentencing for additional charges against Johnson is set for November, and other individuals implicated in the plot are still under legal scrutiny.
This verdict marks a crucial moment in the pursuit of justice for the family and fans of Young Dolph, as Memphis continues to grapple with the loss of one of its beloved music figures.
