With more than 15 years behind him and chart topping hits on the Billboard Dance charts, London-based DJ/producer Diddy was certainly not having his named snatched away from him by hip-hop mogul Sean “P. Diddy” Combs.

Richard “Diddy” Dearlove proved that you can’t always get what you want no matter who you are.

With more than 15 years behind him and chart topping hits on the Billboard Dance charts, London-based DJ/producer Diddy was certainly not having his named snatched away from him by hip-hop mogul Sean “P. Diddy” Combs.

Diddy stated he remembers reading the BBC news page one morning sometime in August of last year, when Puff Daddy announced he was changing his name to “P. Diddy” which abruptly dropped to “Diddy,” and Diddy also stated he remembers how a pit appeared in his stomach which inturn made him feel sick, angry and depressed.

“I didn’t know what to do. All I knew was that I had spent over 15 years having hits, releasing records and mixes under that name, and suddenly it felt like I didn’t exist anymore”, states Diddy.

Diddy knew that if he didn’t try to stop this now, he would become bitter and angry at himself forever. In place of it all “Diddy” Dearlove wasn’t about to give up his name regardless of the amount of money that was placed on the table.

With Diddy being the talk of the London gay community and even at his spot Vauxhall’s Megawoof where he DJ’s, he’s been toughing it out.

“I still came away saying, I don’t want the money. I want my name. You’d get people who just didn’t understand it when I explained how I felt”, states Diddy.

There are estimates of Diddy’s legal fees ranging from $500,000 to $3m. To end it all under court order and the settlement agreement between both parties, significant damages where to be paid to “Diddy” Dearlove and “P. Diddy” will no longer be able to have use of the name in the UK whereas Dearlove will retain exclusive right to the name “Diddy”.
