Fresh out of being arrested in NY for having an open beer and taser on him, as reported on MemphisRap.com, rapper DJ Paul of Three 6 Mafia, who recently just dropped his “A Person of Interest” CD/DVD, sat down with Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club with DJ Envy, Angela Yee and Charlamagne Tha God and talked about his recent NY arrest, the business of mixtapes and why he doesn’t do them, the hip hop business and more.
Paul spoke with The Breakfast Club about how he was arrested for having an open beer and how the officer took him for that and for having a taser on him.
The rapper was asked by Charlamagne Tha God was ‘being arrested with a taser in NY’ the stupidest thing he was ever arrested for, with Paul replying that “hell naw” he got arrested for stuff way worse. Paul explained that the stupidest thing was when he was tricked by a school truancy police into signing a paper that led him to being arrested for riding in his ‘box chevy’ up at the school after being kicked out.
Following the stories of his arrests, Paul was asked about mixtapes but explained that he wasn’t the person to talk to about mixtapes because he didn’t do mixtapes except for in the past.
“Man I’d rather make this $8 a unit.. it’s cool to put out the mixtapes but if you keep giving people free music for the rest of your life.. that’s what they’ll want,” Paul expressed.
Later in the interview, Paul talked more about when they (Three 6 Mafia) first found out about Soundscan in the music business, earning revenue from his Choices movie, producing for other projects such as for a feature in the latest Rocky movie Rocky Balboa starring Sylvester Stallone, Antonio Tarver and others.
