Southern Mixtape DJ’s, DJ Drama and DJ Don Cannon, were released from the Fulton County Jail on January 17 on a $100,000 signature bond. The studio “Aphillates Music Group” where the two mixtape DJ’s are known for working from was raided by the RIAA for piracy on Tuesday afternoon in Atlanta. The two Atlanta DJs were arrested on felony charges under the Racketeering Influenced Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO).

Reports state that DJ Drama and DJ Don Cannon were sent cease-and-desist letters from a local lawyer prior to the raid.

The RIAA states that each year, the industry loses about $4.2 billion to piracy worldwide — “we estimate we lose millions of dollars a day to all forms of piracy.”

In an interview with MTV, Lil Wayne told mixtape DJ’s to “Smarten up.”

“It’s a bad thing,” Wayne said of the Aphilliates’ arrests, “but you gotta play the game fair. If you don’t play fair, all kind of things can happen. You gotta watch people like DJ Clue, watch people like DJ Khaled. They do it right.”

“You gotta do it right,” Wayne reiterated. “It’s gonna be a message. [The authorities] ain’t playing. They gonna make an example. They gonna straighten the game out. A lot of companies take a fall with those mixtapes. N—as be caking up off them mixtapes. The artists can drop his album
