Last month, members of Ku Klux Klan put on their KKK rally in Memphis, TN over the renaming of the Nathan Bedford Forrest Park, Confederate Park and Jefferson Davis Park. As covered on MemphisRap.com, the news headlines included Gang Members Of Crips To March With Ku Klux Klan In KKK Rally In Memphis, 8Ball & MJG To Join March 30 ‘Heart of Memphis’ Rally, As Alternative To KKK Event and more. Now reports claim the KKK rally in Memphis costs the City of Memphis and Shelby County nearly $200,000.

WREG reports that the City of Memphis and Shelby County spent a total of $175,585.

Memphis City Mayor AC Wharton says the costs were “necessary to ensure the safety of citizens and protection of property.”

Still, some taxpayers are outraged at the thought that it seems they’re paying for the Ku Klux Klan’s rally.

AC Wharton has another conclusion:

Our effort to keep the peace downtown and shift the focus to the Heart of Memphis celebration on Tiger Lane garnered favorable international and national press coverage. The good will that was spread across Memphis and projected to the world as a result of this event was worth every penny.

Along with Mayor Wharton, Police Director Toney Armstrong was quite happy as well stating “I commend the public safety officials and officers for their commitment to maintaining order under tough conditions – long hours standing in rainy cold weather and listening to the hateful rants of our out-of-town visitors.”

Meanwhile, a video surfaced online shortly after the rally making warning of the costs taxpayers would be paying for the KKK event. The video is filmed by Pamela Moses, aka Memphis hip hop artist P. Moses (@prettypimp). In the video, which is entitled “KKK WASTE THOUSANDS OF TAX PAYERS DOLLARS IN MEMPHIS,” P. Moses takes viewers through the site of the rally showing the very well armed officers and very well protected rally being fenced off and protected by the officers while the citizens were gated off left to look and/or protest from a far. Watch the video below.
