Clinton Takes A Bow, Throws Full Support Behind Obama

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton urged her followers on Saturday to support Sen. Barack Obama for president.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton urged her followers on Saturday to support Sen. Barack Obama for president. “Well, this isn’t the party I planned, but I sure like the company,” Clinton said during her speech to her supporters at the National Building Museum in Washington. “…today, I am standing with Senator Obama to say ‘Yes We Can!'”

“Life is too short, time is too precious, and the stakes are too high to dwell on what might have been. We have to work together for what still can be. And that is why I will work my heart out to make sure that Senator Obama is our next President and I hope and pray that all of you will join me in that effort,” stated Clinton in a strong endorsement of Barack Obama.

Though Clinton did not win the democratic nominee, she did come close with an estimated 18 million votes which was mentioned in the following statement, “Although we weren’t able to shatter that highest, hardest glass ceiling this time, thanks to you, it has about 18 million cracks in it and the light is shining through like never before,” said Clinton.

In the Senator’s speech, the focus was definitely to get her supporters behind Obama as she encouraged them many times to back the democratic nominee and presidential hopeful. “Today as I suspend my campaign, I congratulate him [Barack Obama] on the victory he has won and the extraordinary race he has run. I endorse him and throw my full support behind him and I ask of you to join me in working as hard for Barack Obama as you have for me,” Clinton again encouraged supporters.

In ending the 28 minute address, the former first lady stated, “This is now our time to do all that we can to make sure that in this election we add another Democratic president to that very small list of the last 40 years and that we take back our country and once again move with progress and commitment to the future.”

In related news, the question now is who will Barack Obama choose as his running mate. BET founder and billionaire businessman Bob Johnson made it clear who he would like to see Obama choose as he made a public announcement one day following Obama’s victory in a letter to the Congressional Black Caucus. “I, as a longtime supporter of Senator Clinton and the Democratic Party, urge you to do everything possible to unify this party to win the Presidential election in November. For me and millions of other Democrats, I believe the most important step that you can take now is to encourage the Congressional Black Caucus to urge Senator Obama to select Senator Hillary Clinton as his Vice Presidential running mate.”

Though Hillary Clinton has not publicly announced her plans to pursue the Vice Presidency as Obama’s running mate or if she will accepted if offered or whether she plans to return to her position with the Senate in New York or otherwise, Barack Obama has selected three to help lead the search for a prospective vice presidential candidate which includes Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg (daughter of the late John F. Kennedy), former Deputy Attorney General Eric Holders (who was a deputy U.S. attorney general under President Bill Clinton) and Jim Johnson (former CEO of Fannie Mae).
