Former San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds was indicted earlier last week for four counts of perjury and one count of obstruction of justice regarding to his 2003 testimony to a grand jury about his relationship with Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative (BALCO). BALCO is under investigation for its role in distributing undetectable steroids and growth hormones to several athletes.

The BALCO scandal caused an uproar in Major League Baseball, with a major focus on the 43-year old free agent, who denied using any illegal performance enhancement drugs. His testimony to the grand jury has now been the focus of a new investigation, which alleges that Bonds lied about his involvement with the company.
