Barack Obama Weighs In On Marijuana, Says Weed Is ‘No Dangerous’ Than Alcohol

President Barack Obama marijuana vs alcohol is not any more dangerous

Closely following the legalization of marijuana in the state of Colorado, President Barack Obama has weighed in on weed saying, ‘it’s no more dangerous than alcohol.’

In an interview with The New Yorker, Obama, who has admitted he smoked pot as a kid, says though he doesn’t think it is more dangerous than alcohol, he does view it as a bad habit and a vice no different than cigarettes.

Obama said though it is not something that he encourages, in regards to the impact on the individual consumer, Obama still maintains it’s less dangerous than alcohol.

While Obama gave these views, he still added he doesn’t believe it’s a good idea and could be a waste of time and very unhealthy as he has informed his two daughters.

Addressing the high incarceration rates of minorities and those in poverty for getting arrested for marijuana, Obama admits middle-class kids are not arrested for pot like poor kids are.

Currently, marijuana is classified by the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) as a Schedule I drug meaning it is considered by the DEA to be in one of the most dangerous classes of drugs with potential abuse.

Obama, who feels that the legalization of marijuana in Colorado and Washington State are a move “forward,” says it’s “important for society not to have a situation” where those “punished” for breaking the law are one-sided to just a select few.
