Baby Planking On Microwave, Has It Gone Too Far?

In the new internet fueled photo-posting craze of planking – lying face-down with your arms by your sides in an unusual but recognizable location – the planking photos seem to be getting more and more ironically far-fetched, such as this planking photo of a baby planking on a microwave.

Since first becoming an internet craze, planking’s reasonability has been questioned but lately its’ heroic feats and questionable planks, such as the baby planking on a microwave, are raising more questions of safety and even legal concerns.

It can be seen in new postings of sites accepting planking photos for contests or simple fun, where most sites are now strongly emphasizing words such as “be safe” and “responsible” and “do not break any laws.”

Recently, planking has made headlines for the abruptness of it all such as the news in Kentucky of Bowling Green resident and would-be Western Kentucky University college freshman Tyler Webster, 18, who was banned from WKU after a photo of him planking on the Henry Hardin Cherry statue at WKU was published on the front page of the Bowling Green Daily News. Ironically, Webster and his planking friend Joshua Lindsey, 17, actually run a site by the name of but still ended up crossing an invisible line (of what’s too far) and landed in trouble.

Back in May of this year, planking made national headlines when a 20-year-old Australia man plunged to his death after planking on a 7-story balcony in Brisbane, Australia.

Still, the “planking” trend seems to be a never-ending growing internet craze with an invisible but learning line (of what’s too far) and is spreading its way from location to location – possibly a town near you.
