Apple has put a tremendous amount of pressure on handset makers like Motorola and Nokia, according to industry analysts stated PCWorld. Capitalizing on its legendary talent for creating easy-to-use products, Apple will be a competitor out of the gate.

With the Apple iPhone, customers will be introduced to a touch-screen-controlled device that plays music on it’s widescreen iPod with touch controls, surfs the Internet, is a 2 megapixel digital camera, has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi wireless technology, a SIM card slot and is a phone that delivers voice mail and e-mail like no other cell phone.

The smartphone is priced at $599 for 8 gigabytes of memory, which has pushed the company’s shares up to around 8.5 percent. Inaddition to the 8 gigabytes of memory, a 4-gigabyte model for $499 of the iPhone will also be available, which will ship in June in the United States. According to reports the phones will be available in Europe in the fourth quarter and in Asia in 2008.

Apple said Cingular Wireless, the No. 1 U.S. wireless network owned by AT&T Inc., will be the company’s exclusive U.S. cellular partner.

The company hopes to sell about 10 million units in 2008, or about 1 percent of the market.
