American Idol: Auditions in Memphis, TN

American Idol, the world’s most watched televised talent search, is back and this time around it hits Memphis, TN.

American Idol, the world’s most watched televised talent search, is back and this time around it hits Memphis, TN, the city that’s more known than any other city for birthing some of the music world’s most legendary singers and music artists. AMERICAN IDOL began its search for the next singing superstar this year setting out to host auditions in 7 cities across the country which started in August 2006! Some of the cities which have already hosted auditions this year are Los Angeles, San Antonio, and Birmingham. Now Memphis, TN is up next!

Idol will be taking lineup/registrations beginning 6:00 AM, September 1st, Friday morning. There is an advisory that no one will be allowed to line up prior to this time. Registration is expected to last from September 1st and will continue until the morning of Sunday, September 3rd. The actual audions will take place on Sunday, September 3 and will be starting at around 8:00 am.

If you are planning to be there you should line up at the main entrace plaza doors which is located off of Third Street and right near the Beale Street Alley. Those who will be lining up should look for the “Front Of Line” banner.

And if you aren’t familiar with parking in Downtown Memphis the garage fee is $5 per entrance per car in the Ford Parking Garage located on Linden Avenue. Also, if you plan on bringing drinks and food with you, you will not be allowed to bring them inside the building and you should also be expected to be searched before entering the building.

Twelve finalists and/or future singers (six men and six women) who were selected from America, compete in a talent contest in which they were asked to sing any song they like on this “Star Search” clone. After each song that was sung, the judges, Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell, then critique that finalist’s chosen song. After each show’s ending, America must vote for a finalist to whom they really think their performance is good using this AT&T, Cingular Wireless or any other cellular phone to cast votes with. Once the votes are locked in, the judges and America decides who has the most and the least amount of votes, and the contestant with the least amount of votes is eliminated, and it goes on each week’s show until the winner is crowned as “American Idol,” where he/she wins a recording contract worth up to $1,000,000. The rest of the other finalists to whom they have been voted off before (the runner-up) also get recording contracts, too.
