During these last couple of weeks Allen Iverson has had both Grizzlies and Twitter fans on pins and needles about a possible move to Memphis; but as of Today it is official.

This morning the former Detroit Piston updated his twitter page to say, “God Chose Memphis as the place that I will continue my career. I met with Mr. Heinsley, Chris Wallace and my next head coach Lionel Hollins.” This was followed by another tweet stating, “I feel that they are committed to developing a winner and I know that I can help them to accomplish that. I feel that I can trust them.”

According to Iverson, who has been a free agent since July 1st, he was presented with a one-year contract offer on August 25th. On the 27th his Twitter page read, “Memphis is a place that I would love to play. The Grizzlies have good young players with a great upside. I love the city of Memphis too.”

Despite the fact that last season the Grizzlies only won 24 out of 58 games, Iverson sounds confident that he has what it takes to turn the Grizzlies around. He included the phrase “develop a winner” in two seperate Twitter updates.

During his 13-year career, Iverson has been an All-Star 10 times and was the league’s MVP in 2001. At six feet tall, he is considered one of the best small guards to ever play, and his scoring average ranks among the top five in NBA history.

Iverson will tip off the season with his new teammates on October 28th against his old team the Detroit pistons.
