The 2012 elections near, and one politician is getting support in not so usual places – hip hop in the form of Memphis rappers. Memphis rapper Al Kapone has released a new music video featuring Three 6 Mafia’s DJ Paul in support of Republican George Flinn who is running for Congress in the 9th District of Tennessee.
Flinn faces Democrat Congressman Steve Cohen, the current US Representative of Tennessee’s 9th congressional district.
The legendary rapper Al Kapone, real name Alphonzo Bailey, made his name first with underground success in the 1990s Memphis hip hop scene, then as the writer and producer of the song “Whoop That Trick” performed by DJay (actor Terrance Howard) in the Academy Award winning film Hustle & Flow, written and directed by Craig Brewer.
Kapone also wrote the song “Hustle & Flow (It Ain’t Over),” and had a solo song “Get Crunk, Get Buck,” both from the Hustle & Flow movie also.
