Memphis’ own Al Green gets a Lifetime Achievement Award at the eighth annual ‘BET Awards’ on BET at 8 p.m. tonite.

Memphis’ own Al Green gets a Lifetime Achievement Award at the eighth annual “BET Awards” on BET at 8 p.m. tonite. The show will be hosted by D.L. Hughley from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

The BET award will be just one of many honors the Memphis bred music legend ‘Reverend’ Al Green has received including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, Gospel Music Hall of Fame, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, BMI Urban Music Award, just to name a few.

Other performers tonite on the “BET Awards” include Alicia Keys, Chris Brown, Kanye West, Usher and Lil’ Wayne.

In other news, Al Green released a new album “Lay It Down,” on May 26th, 2008 through the label Blue Note. Since its release, the album has become Al Green’s first Top 10 Album since 1973. Guests on the album include John Legend, Corinne Bailey Rae and Anthony Hamilton. It was produced by Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson of the The Roots and James Poyser.
