21-year-old Flees From Court Hearing


Derrick Stokes, A 21-year-old who is charged with first degree murder, took a bathroom break during his jury trial and never returned.

Derrick Stokes was convicted for the July 2008 shooting of Bryan Hatchett, 29, during a robbery attempt. Officials found him hiding in a ceiling of a downstairs bathroom in the 3400 block of Knight Arnold.

He was apprehended at 12:30 this morning. Stokes was out on bond, but his recent flee from court automatically forfeited his bond and received an automatic life sentence.

Derrick Stokes confirmed that he was there with two other accomplices when Bryan Hatchett was shot.
