Memphis parents rushed to Westside Elementary in Frayser to pick up their children after word spread of a gunshot being fired at the school.
To everyone's surprise the gun had actually accidentally discharged while in one of the elementary students' backpack, according to officials.
Although no one was injured, parents are still shocked and enraged over the incident.
The Westside Elementary School kindergartner brought the gun to his school on Thursday morning.
While waiting in the cafeteria for the opening bell, the gun somehow accidentally discharged while in the boy's backpack around 7:42 AM during breakfast and before school started at 8 o'clock.
Local law enforcement are still investigating the incident and it is still unclear how the unidentified young kindergarten student had possession of the gun.
