Memphis Security Guard Charged With Attempted Murder For Shooting At Dodge Gas Station

A security guard has been charged with second-degree murder following a heated argument and altercation outside of a Dodge’s Chicken and Gas Station on S. Third Street in South Memphis.

Rodney Benton, 48, an unarmed security guard shot Terrell Kennell, 30 in the head after the two took the argument outside of the store.

According to police, Benton stated that Kennel had pulled a gun on him, so he fired his weapon.

Rodney Benton is being held on a $200,000 bond and has been charged with employment of firearm with intent to commit felony, unlawful possession of a weapon and attempted second degree murder.

Benton is due in court on February 4, 2013.
