R.I.P. Soul Train’s Don Cornelius, Dead at 75; Possible Suicide Death

Don Cornelius, known as the funny, talented and brilliant host and creator of the infamous musical dance TV show “Soul Train,” is dead of an apparent suicide.

Cornelius was found dead in his Sherman Oaks, CA home this Wednesday morning (Feb. 1), ironically on the first day of Black History Month.

Cornelius was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead. Law enforcement sources claim Don Cornelius may have committed suicide, according to TMZ.

Some sources are claiming the cause of death was from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head

“Soul Train,” which debuted in 1971 and aired in syndication up until March 2006, is one of the most memorable dance television shows ever with live performance by legendary artists and performers; it is still proclaimed to be the “longest-running, first-run, nationally syndicated program in television history.”

Don Cornelius was 75 years old at the time of his death.

Reportedly in divorce proceedings in 2009, Cornelius told an L.A. judge he was suffering from “health issues” and just wanted to finalize his divorce before he died.

Cornelius was granted his divorce in 2010.
