CVS Pharmacy Wants To Expand; United Methodist Church May Be Demolished?!

Reportedly, CVS Pharmacy chain is trying to expand, and right now their eyes are on a property located on Union Avenue in Midtown. The property that sits there currently is the Union Avenue United Methodist Church.

Memphis Heritage executive director, June West, is trying to work out a deal that will allow CVS to re-locate to avoid demolition of the property located on Union Ave.

West is currently trying to get CVS to look at other locations for their chain to expand on, but CVS has their eyes on the corner where the church sits because more traffic comes that way than any other location that was shown to them.

Some people are against West’s involvement in opposition to the demolition of the church. Even though the church is on Union Ave, congregation is dwindling and/or infusing with another church nearby.

On the other hand, West believes that the demolition of that property will have a dramatic effect on the community surrounding it.
