Willie Wins 5th Straight Mayoral Election

City of Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton wins record setting 5th straight Mayoral Election.

Willie wins again. When the dust settled, Herenton had 42.4 percent of the vote, while Chumney was holding at 34.6 percent and former Morris was receiving 21.3 percent.

A triumphant Herenton spoke of the need for unity after the racially polarized race in which polls showed him getting virtually no white support.
