No More House Parties! Where Are Some of Our Old School Artists?

Do you remember going to a house party back in the 80s and jamming to Salt N Pepa, or even Roxanne Roxanne? Those were the days! Or what about trying to wear those balloon pants like MC Hammer, or even going out in public wearing those crazy polka dots like KWAME? What were we thinking???

Lately, with the vast numbers of artists rising the charts tend to make me wonder where are those old school artists? I’m not talking about some of the people who make cameos here and there like MC Lyte, who we have seen on a couple of sitcoms. But I’m speaking on our artists that seriously made us move more than 20 years ago, like Grand Puba, or Public Enemy. Where are those cats at today, and even better, what have they been up to?

I posted a blog forum on Myspace asking all of my subscribers who they’d like to see again, and I must say, I got a gazillion old school artists. Here are a few mentionables: The Time (Morris Day); SWV; JJ FADD-Supersonic; Dana Dane; Take 6; YoYo; Roxanne Shante (who was said to have gained a degree in Psychology-but don’t quote me on that one!); 2 Live Crew (yeah, where is Luke?); Oaktown’s 3-5-7 (and Angie B!!); Special Ed (you remember, he used to rock the joints with that one cut-about some alligator shoes, wasn’t it?!); and TROOP, remember them?

I must add that we truly had a glorious time going down memory lane, and I hope this article takes you back as well. Who are some of your favorite “Old School” artists that you miss rocking to?
