Three 6 Mafia Takes Home Oscar and Makes Academy Awards History As First Rap Group Performance

Three 6 Mafia took home the award for Best Original Song at the 78nd Annual Academy Awards.

March 5th, 2006 – Three 6 Mafia took home the award for Best Original Song at the 78nd Annual Academy Awards. Three 6 Mafia performed their original song “It’s Hard Out Here For A Pimp” with songstress and actress Taraji Henson, right before winning their Oscar Academy Award for Best Original Song from the movie “Hustle and Flow” which was written by Memphis native Craig Brewer and directed by John Singleton. The song “It’s Hard Out Here For A Pimp” was written by Paul “DJ Paul” Beauregard and Jordon “Juicy J” Houston of Three Six Mafia, along with Cedric “Frayser Boy” Coleman.

Three 6 Mafia fellow nominees for Best Original Song included “Travel Through” for TransAmerica which was written by country singer, actress and songwriter Dolly Parton and also “In The Deep” for the movie Crash written by Kathleen
