Don’t bother looking up the latest rap lyrics. You won’t find the Corvette heralded along with Mercedes-Benz, Lexus or Bentley. But it has become no less popular with many African Americans.
Corvette C5-RThe United Council of Corvette Clubs boasts nearly 350 members and 22 chapters, based mostly in the Northeast, South and Midwest. Members get together in local meetings and at annual conventions to talk ‘vettes, stage drag races and give each other tips on juicing up their favorite muscle car.
One of the big draws to this family are its annual conventions. The 2002 gathering will take place over three or four days in July in Memphis, Tenn., and will feature drag racing, a parade, activities for children and more.
